Tipplasty

“Tipplasty”, also known as a nasal tip surgery, is a type of cosmetic surgery that focuses on reshaping the tip of the nose. For simplification we divide the nose in two parts : the the more rigid part close to the eyes and the cheeks and the more movable and soft part. Tip plasty refers to correction of the second part. It includes correction of the base of the nose close to the upper lip and the tip itself. The base it is generally too wide and needs to be narrowed ot it has a flare that is unattractive. The nasal tip correction might involve correcting the projection,( the distance from the tip to the face) correction of the width , the shape ( frequently it is bulbous and round), or correction of the droopiness and the angle it forms with the upper lip.

During a tipplasty, depending on the preoperative plan the surgeon will make incisions in the skin at the base of the nostrils, and then reshape the underlying cartilage and tissue to achieve the desired look. Or an incision is made in the columella and the skin elevated to access the cartilage and reshape it. There are a multitude of maneuvers available. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, and all rhinoplasty patients go home the same day.

Recovery time for a tipplasty is usually around one to two weeks, during which time patients will need to avoid strenuous activity and keep their head elevated to reduce swelling. Pain and discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.

If you’re considering a tipplasty, it’s important to choose a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon who can help you achieve the results you’re looking for. Be sure to schedule a consultation to discuss your options and ask any questions you may have about the procedure.
