Liposuction in Chicago
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that has experienced multiple refinements over the last several years sometimes called liposculpture, lipoplasty, or liposelection.
When a qualified plastic surgeon, such as Chicago plastic surgeon Dr. Makhlouf, considers liposuction, the first step is to objectively determine how much fat needs to be removed. This allows to properly plan surgery in terms of anesthesia, fluid replacement, and medications.
During the procedure a certain finesse is required for a clear visualization of the desired outcome and a complete awareness of how much subcutaneous tissue is left behind. Therefore, just how much is suctioned is not the only consideration.
Whether the tumescent, wet, or super wet or water liposuction technique is used, they all involve injecting fluid to distend the area to be treated. The fluid facilitates the aspiration, increases accuracy, decreases bleeding to negligible amounts and enhances the patient’s comfort during and after the surgery.
OUR RESULTS
See the Beauty IN Progress
Recovery time varies according to the extent of the areas treated, and the patient’s general health. Many of our patients have been able to go back to work the very next day. This type of surgery has been most rewarding for our patients with great satisfaction as to the results achieved. Liposuction requires a good knowledge of the anatomy because of the various areas that can be treated: thighs, abdomen, calves, arms, breasts, face, etc. Due to the magnitude of fluids administered and aspirated, a physician with a good surgical background is essential to make it a safe procedure. An ideal candidate is a person who has localized fat deposit. Some patients present that way, however, many people have fat deposits in multiple areas, and still can be good candidates for liposuction. In addition, patients with high BMI have been shown to be happy with liposuction in a very large scientific study.
Alternatively, liposuction can be combined or substituted with other procedures like fat transfer to the buttocks or a tummy tuck.
Because it is a procedure that involves alteration in shape and form (“Plasticos” in Greek), Plastic Surgeons are the true natural experts.
Care and Recovery
The patient goes home the same day of the surgery with drains, which are typically removed the next day. Sutures are removed after one week, and the bruising is gone by ten days. The incisions are usually well hidden. Generally, patients can go in public for one week, and be comfortable to go out for dinner in 3 weeks with minimal make-up.
