A chemical peel is a non-surgical treatment used to remove impurities in the skin as well as improve the overall appearance of the skin. Chemical Peel Procedure
Each chemical peel is unique and Dr. Makhlouf will work to create a custom treatment plan for each individual skin type and need. Different chemicals can be gently applied to the skin to safely remove the damaged layers of the skin, promote cellular turnover, and refine the surface layer for a smoother, clearer, firmer skin that results in a more youthful and radiant appearance. The chemical peel is a brief outpatient procedure, usually done in the operating room with a small amount of sedation to keep the patient comfortable. Often only one and half hours in length, the patient goes home the same day.
Care and Recovery
Following the procedure, you will be sent home with instructions on how to care for your skin. There is no downtime necessary, however, we recommend you avoid exercise for the first 24-48 hours as sweating or sunlight exposure can affect your overall results.
Immediately after a chemical peel, the skin will feel hot and appear red, similar to a sunburn. In the following days, the outer layer of skin will naturally exfoliate and begin to reveal the new, healthy skin within.
It’s important to follow care instructions meticulously in order to achieve the best results. For 7 to 10 days following the procedure, and as the skin exfoliates, it’s important to stay out of the sun, avoid applying chemicals or cosmetics to the face, and do not pull on the skin as it peels as this can cause scarring.
Results will vary for each patient but how long it takes for your skin to heal and display a revitalized look should begin shortly after treatment and gradually increase in improvement.
