Pre-Operative Care and Post-Operative Care for Labiaplasty
Pre-Operative Care:
- The patient needs to wash with antiseptic soap the night before and the morning of the procedure.
Post-Operative Care:
- After surgery, the antibiotic ointment is the most important part of the bandage. It is soft and seals the wound.
- Every time the patient uses the bathroom, the area needs to be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, and antibiotic ointment should be applied. I recommend the patient buys “Tucks,” a medication used for hemorrhoids, to help with pain and minimize tissue swelling.
- Return to work is based on the patient’s comfort, usually a couple of days after the procedure.
- I use dissolving sutures. The patient will be seen three days after the procedure and again two weeks later. If the sutures have not dissolved completely by then, they will be removed.
- Intercourse can be resumed gently three weeks after the surgery.
