Every woman has an idea of what constitutes the perfect breast size. If you

Women seek augmentations to enhance small breasts, restore breast volume lost
after pregnancy (with or without an associated lift), correct asymmetry or
restore a youthful look. Women who feel self-conscious about the way they look,
lack balance between their torso and lower body and whose clothes do not fit
properly, are prime candidates for the procedure.
Breast augmentation aims at bringing out the breast tissue that is present by
placing implants in a sub-pectoral position (behind breast and muscle). Breast
size is chosen by the patient using sizers in the office, along with advice that
I provide. The incision is 4cm in length; its location depends on your own
anatomy and desires. It can be infra-mammary, axillary or periareolar. Usually a
smooth, round saline implant is used. Now that the FDA has cleared the use of
silicone implants, some patients are requesting them. I perform the procedure using general
anesthesia, or intravenous sedation with local anesthesia.
In order to minimize the risk of infection I use the “no touch” technique. This
also provides the smallest chance of hardening of the implant. Although this
adds about fifteen minutes to the procedure, I feel the extra time is well worth
it. The patient goes home the same day with drains in place and medication to
minimize discomfort. Drains are removed 48 hours post-operatively.
For many women the result of augmentation is very satisfying. They appreciate
their “fuller” appearance and youthful silhouette. The positive feedback that
they get when they try on clothes or look into a mirror, reinforces that it was
the right decision for them.
